Tipping in Thailand: who, how much, and when it is not expected
Tipping is not customary in the way it is in the US. Where it is genuinely appreciated, and where it is already included.
Thailand does not have a tipping culture in the American sense. Wages are not structured around it, and a tip is a gesture rather than an obligation.
That said, guides, drivers and spa staff are commonly tipped by visitors, and small notes are appreciated for good service.
Where it is expected
GuidesA few hundred baht for a full day is normal from visitors, not required.
DriversRounding up or 100 baht for a transfer is common.
RestaurantsCheck the bill — service charge is often already added at 10%.
Street foodNo. Pay the price.
