Bangkok day trips: which ones actually work in a day
What is realistically doable as a Bangkok day trip, how long each takes, and the one that fits an 11-hour day without wrecking the next morning.
Most Bangkok day-trip lists include things that are not day trips. Angkor Wat is in another country. Kanchanaburi is a long day with a lot of driving. Ayutthaya is the one that genuinely works: 80km north, a walled UNESCO city, back before dinner.
This page is about the decision, not a catalogue. If you want the tour we list, it is at the bottom with its real duration and inclusions.

Questions
Can I do Ayutthaya by train instead?
Yes. Trains leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat and take roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. It is cheaper and slower, and you arrange the temples yourself when you arrive.
Is one day enough for Ayutthaya?
For the main ruins, yes. The tour we list covers five stops in about 11.5 hours. If you want to cycle between sites at your own pace, stay overnight.
